{"id":141,"date":"2009-09-23T04:30:53","date_gmt":"2009-09-23T10:30:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/uberlaw.net\/LawNumbers\/?p=141"},"modified":"2009-09-23T04:31:56","modified_gmt":"2009-09-23T10:31:56","slug":"notes-on-the-legal-education-at-the-crossroads-v-3-0-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uberlaw.net\/LawNumbers\/2009\/09\/23\/notes-on-the-legal-education-at-the-crossroads-v-3-0-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"Notes on the Legal Education at the Crossroads, v. 3.0 Conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week, I attended the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.law.du.edu\/index.php\/assessment-conference\" target=\"_blank\">Legal Education at the Crossroads <\/a>conference at Denver University.\u00a0 A useful conference, with a lot of demonstrations.<\/p>\n<p>There was much more coverage of student assessment than institutional assessment.\u00a0 That is, most of the sessions focused on ways to assess student performance other than through the standard one-shot end of semester final exam.\u00a0 The classic law school model is an example of summative assessment with no formative assessment.\u00a0 The conference provided a useful counterweight to that model by discussing options for formative assessment (i.e., assessment that occurs while the learning process is going on).<\/p>\n<p>But the other half of the equation is assessing on an institution-wide basis what the individual student assessments tell you about the learning that is or is not going on.\u00a0 There were sessions devoted to the topic of institutional assessment, but&#8211;at least the ones I attended&#8211;ended up with a student assessment focus.<\/p>\n<p>Jeff Rensberger<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last week, I attended the Legal Education at the Crossroads conference at Denver University.\u00a0 A useful conference, with a lot of demonstrations.
